    Inspectors cite two gas stations for sales to minors

    Groton - Two gas stations in Groton were cited for selling cigarettes to children during unannounced inspections conducted last Friday by the Groton Town Police Department and staff members from the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

    Working with the DMHAS invesigators, a state employee under the age of 18 was able to purchase cigarettes at Corey's Petroleum Co., located at 208 Route 12, and Citgo Gas Mart, located at 1004 Poquonnock Road.

    Inspectors conducted 19 compliance checks, finding that two stores in Groton had illegally sold cigarettes to minors. The offending clerks, who were not identified, were fined $200.

    The stores will be referred to the Department of Revenue Services for additional administrative sanctions.
