Police: Man assaults girlfriend outside of Waterford Speedbowl

Waterford — A Stratford man was arrested Thursday night after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in front of the Waterford Speedbowl.

David Mihalov, 56, was charged with first-degree strangulation, second-degree assault and breach of peace.

Police said at around 7:45 p.m. they received multiple calls reporting the assault. People at the Waterford Speedbowl had to intervene.

Mihalov took off in his car before police arrived. Waterford police were able to track his cellphone to North Stonington, where state police detained him two hours after the attack.

The victim was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening.

Mihalov is being held on a $25,000 bond, pending his arraignment today in New London Superior Court.
