State police identify woman found dead near Bluff Point park entrance

Groton — State police Sunday identified the body of a Ledyard woman who was found floating in the water near the entrance to Bluff Point State Park Saturday afternoon.

Tricia Beattie, 36, of 372D Colonel Ledyard Highway, was pronounced dead at the scene when local and state police, as well as state emergency rescue teams, were called to the park around 4 p.m. Saturday.

The State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded to the scene and state police are leading the investigation.

State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said this morning that the police are treating Beattie's death as "a suspicious, untimely death."

Police said this afternoon that Beattie was last seen around 1 a.m., on Saturday in the area of 1649 Route 12, in Gales Ferry. Her car, a black 2006 Kia Optima with Connecticut dealer's license plate XSA-21, has not been found. Police are searching for the vehicle and are looking for anyone with information on the car or anyone who may have seen Beattie or spoken with her on Friday.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on Monday to determine cause and manner of death, police said in a press release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police Department at (860) 848-6500. All calls will be kept confidential.
