Stonington police warn of check scam

Stonington — Police are warning residents of a scam that asks the victim to cash a check in order to receive money from the proceeds.

Police said a resident received the scam letter. Police said the letter is made out to the resident, which includes a check made out to the victim.

The letter says that if recipient cashes the check and sends in the money he or she will receive a large amount of money back.

Police are asking residents to report any scams by calling (860) 599-4411.
