Police say masked man robbed Jewett City gas station

Griswold – Police said a man with a knife Thursday night robbed the same Jewett City gas station where just two days earlier a dying, bleeding man had come for help.

State police say a masked man armed with a knife fled on foot from the Best Way at 211 North Main St. with stolen money around 10:23 p.m. Thursday. Police said a K-9 search did not turn up the suspect.

Police said the male suspect was wearing a green, hooded sweatshirt with orange lettering on the front, blue pants, black Converse sneaks, black gloves, a black knit cap and a white cloth over his face. Police ask anyone with information about the robbery to contact Det. John Jette at (860) 848-6532.

The store is the same one where John Coddington, 27, came for help Tuesday morning after allegedly being stabbed by John Savoy, 22, behind 231 North Main Street. Police have said the two men were brothers. Coddington was bleeding heavily from a stab wound to the neck, according to witnesses, and collapsed at the front door of the store. Coddington later died. Savoy has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, assault on a police officer and interfering with an officer and is held in lieu of a $1 million bond.
