While investigating burglary suspect, NL police make marijuana arrest

New London – While searching the Bank Street home Thursday of a man suspected in a rash of local burglaries, police discovered marijuana plants growing in a neighbor’s home and arrested the man.

Police charged Gary Brawn, 58, of 621 Bank St., with cultivation of marijuana.

Police said while searching the home of Scott Tyrone, 31, at 615 Bank St., officers noticed marijuana growing outside Brawn’s apartment. Police then knocked on Brawn’s door and were allowed inside where they found several more marijuana plants.

Tyrone was arrested Wednesday by Waterford police after he allegedly tried to pawn items stolen from a Quaker Hill home at a Groton pawn shop. Waterford police, who charged Tyrone with sixth-degree larceny, said he is a suspect in five other burglaries in Waterford over the last two weeks.

New London police said the search of Tyrone's home Thursday uncovered “numerous articles believed to have been stolen” during burglaries in New London, police said.

Police said more charges against Tyrone could be forthcoming.
