Pawcatuck man charged in beating of 80-year-old victim

North Stonington – Police arrested a Pawcatuck man Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted an 80-year-old man.

Police responded to 16 Main St. around 9:54 a.m. and found the victim, who was taken to Westerly Hospital with minor injuries after the attack. The police investigation led them to the home of Wyeth H. Phelps, 47, of 32 Downer St., who was charged with second-degree assault on an elderly person.

Phelps is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Wednesday in New London Superior Court.
