Niantic man charged with enticing minor

Avon — Police arrested a Niantic man Thursday after they say he attempted to arrange to have sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Joseph E. Stinnett, 24, of 41 E. Pattagansett Road, was charged with criminal attempt to entice a minor, criminal attempt to impair the morals of a minor and obscenity.

The Avon Police Department’s Digital Investigation Unit began their investigation on Dec. 4. Police said Stinnett had sexually explicit and unlawful chats with the 15-year-old girl. During those conversations, police said that Stinnett wanted to travel to Avon to have sex with the girl.

Stinnett is being held on a $100,000 bond, pending his arraignment Friday at Hartford Superior Court.
