Man charged with negligent homicide for July 2012 car accident

Norwich — A 19-year-old Franklin man turned himself in Monday on a warrant that charges him with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle for a July 21 car accident he was involved in that killed a woman on Interstate 395 North in the area of Exit 80.

Daniel Humbert was also charged with failure to drive in the proper lane.

Police said that the accident occurred when a car that Humbert was driving made contact with Paul Pluff's car. Humbert, who was on the left lane, crossed over to the right lane and came to a rest on the breakdown lane, police said. Pluff, of Springfield, Mass., drove across the right shoulder and onto a graded embankment, where his car hit a tree and became airborne.

While in the air, Pluff's car hit another tree, and his wife, Marcia, 52, was ejected from the vehicle, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paul Pluff was taken by American Ambulance to The William W. Backus Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Humbert was released on a $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on April 12.
