Apartment fire in New London quickly knocked down

New London firefighters control a fire at the Faire Harbour Landings apartment complex in New London April 4, 2013. The fire was called in around 6:25 p.m. and was brought under control in roughly 15 minutes. All residents of the building were evacuated and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

New London — Three families were displaced after a fire damaged parts of the Fair Harbour Landings Apartments complex at 10 Anthony Road early Thursday evening.

Sue Rochester-Bolen, senior director of emergency services for the American Red Cross’ Connecticut chapter, said she met with two of the three families who will be displaced “for the long haul,” she said. The third family was not home at the time of the fire, which was reported around 6:25 p.m.

The rest of the families in the 12-unit apartment complex were able to return to their homes, she said.

The fire was quickly knocked down after it burned off the vinyl siding of Apt. 6. Jefferson Avenue and Chester Street were shut down from New London High School to Clark Lane during the fire.
