Norwich — City firefighters on Tuesday extinguished a brush fire that burned a swath of land in an isolated wooded area of Mohegan Park.
The fire was reported at 2 p.m. and was found burning off a foot path at least 600 feet into the woods from the parking area.
Battalion Chief Tracy Montoya said city crews responded with three engines and a forestry unit, pumping water from Spaulding Pond. Firefighters spent about two hours battling the fire, which Montoya said consumed about an acre of underbrush and exhausted firefighters because of the labor intensive work.
