Colchester man sentenced for possession of fake marshals service badge

A 42-year-old Colchester man was sentenced Wednesday to three years of probation for his unauthorized possession of an imitation U.S. Marshals Service badge, acting U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly announced.

John W. Carroll was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Joan G. Margolis in New Haven. Carroll pleaded guilty to the offense in February.

Carroll was arrested on Oct. 9, 2012, in possession of a fake U.S. Marshals Service badge that was substantially similar to an authentic badge and two fake U.S. Marshals Service identification cards, authorities said.
