Driver hospitalized after car slams into Norwich garage

Norwich — An unidentified female driver was taken to the William W. Backus Hospital Monday after her car slammed into a garage attached to the house at 306 Norwich Ave.

Norwich Director of Inspections James Troeger said the accident happened around 9 a.m. He was called in to inspect the building. He determined the main portion of the house was still livable, but the two-car garage sustained extensive damage.

Troeger said the Taftville fire department used an expandable column to get the car out of the garage. The fire department then put the broken post back in its place and wrapped the garage in caution yellow tape.

He said the car narrowly missed a gas line. As a precaution, the gas was turned off.

Police said the accident is still under investigation.
