Groton – The Electric Boat Fire Department extinguished a small equipment fire Wednesday in the basin of Graving Dock 3, a dry dock where the hulls of submarines are repaired and maintained.

EB spokesman Robert A. Hamilton said the fire was reported just after 5 p.m. and declared out at 5:18 p.m. The USS Toledo, a Los Angeles-class submarine, was in the dock’s basin at the time but was not involved in the fire, Hamilton said.

There were no injuries but there was a small amount of damage to some equipment, Hamilton said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
