New London traffic stop leads to arrest of suspected heroin dealer

New London - State police say they seized 20 baggies of suspected heroin prepackaged for sale, $1,221 in cash, and arrested two men Wednesday following a traffic stop on Interstate 95.

Police from Troop E in Montville had stopped a 2008 Mercedes sedan in the area of Frontage Road when they discovered the driver, Brandon Shail, 33, of Stamford had a suspended license.

The stop led to further investigation and the discovery of the heroin and paraphernalia that included several hundred wax paper baggies and numerous hypodermic needles, police said.

Shail was charged with driving a motor vehicle with a suspended license, reckless driving, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin with intent to sell.

A passenger, 30-year-old Angel Martinez of Bridgeport, also was charged with possession of heroin.

Shail was held in lieu of a $60,000 bond. Both men are slated to appear July 17 in New London Superior Court.
