Power outage hits East Lyme neighborhood

A blown transformer in the Tanglewood Drive section of East Lyme led to 59 people in the area losing their electricity today.

As of 9 p.m., all but seven of the customers had been restored to full power, and a Northeast Utilities spokesman said it was only a matter of hours before the area would be fully restored.

Spokesman Shawn Johnston was unsure of the cause of the transformer problem, although he said the company was first alerted to the situation by a 911 call and that the fire department was on site at one point. Another report had said there may have been a small grass fire associated with the outage, but Johnston could not confirm the report.

Johnston said he did not know when the outage first occurred. But he said all customers would be without power for less than 24 hours.
