'Runaway Bunny' statue vandalized in Westerly park
Westerly (AP) — A statue in the image of "The Runaway Bunny" after the children's book of the same name has been vandalized in a Westerly park.
The Westerly Sun reports that the statue in Wilcox Park was marked with vulgar graffiti and the letters "KKK" on Friday night or Saturday morning.
Police Chief Edward St. Clair says they are investigating.
The park is owned by the library. Library director Kathryn Taylor says she is concerned about how to clean the metal statue, and says she plans to call the North Stonington artist who made it to ask about how to remove the graffiti without damaging it. They have already tried brass polish without success.
The statue was installed in the park 15 years ago.
