Man seriously injured in early morning scooter crash

New London — City police are investigating an early morning scooter crash that left its driver with serious injuries.

Police said that the unnamed man was driving the scooter on Green Street when for some unknown reason it swerved, struck a curb and crashed. The incident was reported at 1:05 a.m.

When police arrived at the scene, the man was unconscious. He was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, but police said the driver was later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital because of the serious nature of the internal injuries. Police said the man is in critical condition.

Police have impounded the scooter.
