Norwich police help make heroin bust

Norwich — The Norwich Police Department detective division assisted the State of Connecticut Parole Department in arresting Michael T. O’Brien of 9 Goldberg Ave. at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

O’Brien was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell, operation of a drug factory and risk of injury to a minor.

After receiving several tips, detectives and a parole officer went into the residence for a parole compliance check and found “a small amount of heroin pre-packaged for street level sales, packaging materials and a grinder used to process heroin.”

A 2-year-old child was present and in close proximity to the narcotics.

Detectives seized more than $1,200 in U.S. currency.

O’Brien had been on parole for prior firearm charges. On Monday he was sent back into custody at the Department of Corrections and is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 5 in Norwich.
