Tips lead to drug arrests in Norwich

    Louis Lloyd

Norwich — Complaints to a crime tip line about drug dealing in the Greeneville section of town led to two crack cocaine-related arrests on Thursday, along with condemnation of an apartment because of unsafe conditions.

Norwich Police Sgt. James C. Tetreault, in a statement, said officers and detectives executed a search-and-seizure warrant at 176 Central Ave., Apt. 1. In addition to tip line complaints about the residence, Tetreault said patrol officers reported seeing drug dealing around the residence and received complaints from residents and business owners.

Police arrested two residents of 176 Central Ave., Apt. 1.

Louis Lloyd, 28, was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell and possession of marijuana.

Alan F. Benoit, 49, was charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In the apartment, police said they seized crack cocaine packaged for street level sales, a small amount of marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia.

What appeared to be unsafe conditions inside the apartment prompted a visit by the building department for an inspection. The home was condemned after the discovery of exposed wires and an open electrical circuit breaker box.

Lloyd was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear today in Norwich Superior Court. Benoit was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 16.
