Many police academy graduates destined for New London County

Fifty police officers, many headed to departments in New London County, are graduating Wednesday evening from 341st Recruit Class of the Police Officer Standards and Training Council.

The class represents 29 departments from across the state. The graduation ceremony is being held at Central Connecticut State University’s Welte Auditorium in New Britain. All of the recruits completed the 23-week training program.

Graduates include: Old Saybrook Officer Andrew Brooks; Norwich officers Mario Castro, Elizabeth Harsley and Marc Massicotte; Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Officer Alexander Tran; and Groton City Officer Kirsten Edwards.

Edwards’ father J.D. Edwards is a Groton City firefighter and her mother Paula Edwards works on the Groton Ambulance.

Tran, who speaks fluent Vietnamese, is the second tribal police officer to graduate from a Connecticut police academy.
