Groton Town police arrest suspect in burglary

Groton – Town police are crediting the vigilance of neighbors for a quick arrest of the suspect in a residential burglary today in a neighborhood of Navy families.

Police said they responded to Polaris Park for a report of a residential burglary that had just occurred. Investigation led to the arrest of 30-year-old Kasey N. Carper of 118 Proteus Ave. in Groton.

Carper was charged with third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny and criminal possession of a firearm.

The arrest comes a month after police and residents attended a community meeting hosted by Balfour Beatty Communities following complaints about suspicious activity in their neighborhood.

Balfour Beatty Communities manages homes in several neighborhoods off Route 12 near Naval Submarine Base New London.

"The neighbors observed suspicious activity and reported it to the police," said Groton Town Lt. John W.Varone. "Their keen observations and timely reporting resulted in the quick resolution of the crime."

Carper was held on a $ 50,000 bond and is slated to appear Tuesday in New London Superior Court.
