    New London police arrest 2 following alleged assault Friday

    The New London Police Department arrested two Friday evening after receiving a call about a possible stabbing in the area of 29 Golden St. Officers discovered a 59-year-old male with a laceration on his upper lip and other small cuts and abrasions.

    The victim alleged he was assaulted by two people and their dog while drinking in an acquaintance's apartment. The officers arrested two people at 29 Golden St., Apt. 8. William Thomas, 59, of 19 Jay St., was charged and arrested for second-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon. Thomas is being held on a $75,000 bond. Sandra Dopp, 51, of 29 Golden St., was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, a double-edged "Dirk Style" knife, which according to police was not used in the alleged assault. Deputy Chief Peter Reichard described the "Dirk Style" knife as a long dagger.

    The dog, an American Bulldog, in the apartment was turned over to New London Animal Control officers. The victim was taken to L+M Hospital and released after treatment for several small lacerations and dog bites.
