New London – City police have arrested two people in connection with an assault and robbery in October in which the victim was found beaten with his hands and feet bound.

The robbery occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 7 at 848 Bank St. where police had responded to a report of an assault. Police said they found a victim with hands and feet tied and suffering from multiple cuts from a knife and a fractured back.

The unidentified victim said he was entering his apartment building when he was attacked by a man later identified as Marquice Hawkins, 27. The victim said Hawkins beat him, tied his hands and legs with plastic ties and stole his wallet.

Through a months-long investigation, New London Deputy Police Chief Peter Reichard said detectives determined Hawkins and Deahanna Nobleza, 27, together had planned the robbery.

Nobleza, who police said was the victim's former girlfriend, was arrested in Middletown the same day as the robbery on felony drug possession charges by Middletown Police. Middletown police said she was found in possession of 5.6 grams of heroin in her purse.

New London police, who had targeted Nobleza as a person of interest in the robbery, were tracking Nobleza's cell phone activity and learned she had a rented car she was to return in Middleton, police said.

Both Nobleza and Hawkins, each with addresses listed at 27 Jay St. in New London, were charged on the new warrant Thursday at their appearance in Middletown Superior Court.

Nobleza is charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. Hawkins is charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and first-degree unlawful restraint.

They are each being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
