Waterford police warn about call from phony IRS agents

Waterford – Police are warning area residents of a possible scam involving a caller claiming to be from the IRS.

Police said a Waterford resident received a telephone call from “Investigator Donald Joe and Investigator James,” who claimed to be from the IRS. The so-called investigators, who spoke with heavy foreign accents, told the woman they had sent her husband a letter in the mail and he failed to respond. They did not mention what the letter was about but requested he contact them immediately or face further penalties. The telephone number they provided was “818-945-1671.”

Waterford Police called the number and a recording stated, “The Magic Jack customer you are trying to reach is unavailable at this time, please leave a message.”
