Columbia - A 30-year-old Lebanon man who police say was involved in a domestic assault in Lebanon on Tuesday was arrested Wednesday following a day-long manhunt that called on a host of state police resources.

Patrick Heath Jr. of 63C Beaumont Highway was taken into custody at about 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday in a heavily wooded area in Columbia several miles from his home. The arrest followed a ground and aerial search that included K-9 teams and the state police helicopter.

The search had begun at 5:17 p.m. Tuesday when state police were called to a Lebanon home for a domestic violence complaint.

Police said Heath physically assaulted the victim following an argument and at one point had pointed a loaded shotgun at the victim’s head. The victim managed to leave the residence and contact police.

Officers from Troop K in Colchester joined with members of the state police tactical unit Tuesday afternoon and surrounded Heath’s home but did not immediately find him. Police said they considered him armed and dangerous and notified surrounding police departments.

Police said a search of Heath’s home revealed two shotguns, a .12 gauge and a .410 gauge which were wrapped in plastic and hidden under leaves and debris.

Heath is charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, one count of third-degree strangulation and two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment. Police said firearm-related charges may be forthcoming.

Held in lieu of a $100,000 bond, Heath is due to appear Thursday in Norwich Superior Court.
