Shoplifting arrests at Crystal Mall lead to further charges

Waterford — Three people were due in New London Superior Court today after police arrested them at the Crystal Mall Friday on petty shoplifting charges. The arrests ultimately led to further charges on outstanding warrants.

Waterford Police Sgt. Mark Balestracci said police issued a warrant for cousins Shane Ebersole, 44, and Justin Ebersole, 34, both of Hanover, after the two engaged officers in a motor vehicle pursuit March 17.

The two men were arrested Friday with Alexandra Maurice, 20, of 25 Ocean Ave., New London, on suspicion that they were involved in a larceny at the mall, according to Balestracci. He said he did not know in which store the larceny had occurred or what had been taken.

The Friday arrest led to a sixth-degree larceny charge for Justin Ebersole, a charge of conspiracy to commit larceny for Maurice and charges of possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and sixth-degree larceny for Shane Ebersole.

Shane Ebersole also was charged on a warrant with interfering with an officer, possession of narcotics not in their original container, driving without license or registration, reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer and possession of marijuana.

Justin Ebersole was charged on a warrant with interfering with an officer.

The Ebersoles were held at the Waterford police station over the weekend. Justin Ebersole's bond was set at $10,000 and Shane Ebersole's at $35,000. Maurice was released on a $500 surety bond.
