Two hospitalized after head-on crash on I-395 in Norwich

Norwich – Two people were hospitalized Sunday after a vehicle vaulted over the center median guard rail on Interstate 395 in Norwich and struck another vehicle head-on.

At 4:43 p.m. Sunday, state police said Robert Cochran V, 57, of Preston was driving a Nissan Frontier on I-395 North in the area of Exit 82 when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled over the guard rails onto the southbound side of the highway. His vehicle struck a Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck driven by Todd Firmin, 53, of North Franklin.

Police said Firmin was trapped in his vehicle and was extricated by emergency personnel at the scene. Both men were taken by American Ambulance to The William W. Backus Hospital for treatment.

Firmin was listed in fair condition Monday at Backus. Cochran was transferred to Hartford Hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
