New London man arrested on weapons charges
New London — Police arrested a New London man on weapons charges Wednesday after a caller reported an armed man “flashing” a gun near the area of Nowhere Café on Colman Street, according to a New London Police Department news release.
Ulpiano Lugo, 35, with a last known address of 26 Rosemary St., was charged with criminal possession of a handgun, carrying a pistol without a permit, breach of peace and interfering with police, the news release said.
Police responded to 454 Colman Street at 12:41 a.m. Wednesday after someone called 911 and provided a physical and clothing description of the man, the release said.
As officers arrived, they saw a man matching the description “abruptly walk over to the neighboring Aaron’s Rental lot and situate himself near a van parked there,” the news release said.
Police found a .22 caliber handgun on the rear bumper of the van.
Lugo, a convicted felon, was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
Police said their investigation continues. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the New London Police Department at (860) 447-5269.
