New London — One man has been hospitalized with critical injuries after being shot overnight near the Ravi Mart on Broad Street, according to city police.
Kevin L. McKinnon Jr., 26, of 32 Belden St., New London, was discovered in a car by an officer en route to a shots-fired call, police said.
Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said the car had crashed into another parked car at 108 Connecticut Ave.
Police said they responded to a report of shots fired at about 1:06 a.m. in the area of 283 Broad St.
Police said the McKinnon, who was bleeding from several gunshot-like wounds, was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
Crews there transferred him to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of what L + M officials called "critical injuries," according to police.
Emergency surgery was performed at Yale-New Haven, and police said he was listed as being in critical condition as of 8:46 p.m. on Friday.
Reichard Friday morning verified that officers found ballistic evidence while investigating outside of the Ravi store. Records show the store has an address of 290 Broad St.
Outside Ravi around 10:30 a.m., police still were working to collect evidence. They'd scattered about 22 yellow markers around the lot of the taped-off gas station.
Next to a couple of the markers was a pile of broken glass.
