Driver of overturned truck charged with reckless driving
New London — Police on Friday charged the driver of a tractor-trailer with reckless driving after they said he failed to negotiate an Interstate 95 ramp's sharp curve and his vehicle overturned.
The ramp from Water Street onto North Frontage Road toward Interstate 95 south was closed for more than an hour because of the 10 a.m. accident, which police said led to the loss of about 51,000 pounds of steel coil off the truck.
The driver, Tete Adote, 43, of Hamden, was transported to L+M Hospital with minor injuries, police said. Police later issued Adote a summons on a reckless driving charge, police announced Friday evening.
The accident damaged a substantial amount of granite curbing and guard railing, police said.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection assisted with a fuel spill in connection with the accident. The Connecticut State Police Truck Unit also responded for multiple alleged equipment violations and actively was investigating, police said.
