One seriously injured in Norwich rollover
Norwich — One man suffered serious injuries and two others had possible minor injuries when a car struck a guide wire to a utility pole on Hunters Road and rolled over onto its roof, Taftville Assistant Fire Chief Bill Hadam said.
Police, Taftville Volunteer Fire Department, American Ambulance and a crew from Norwich Public Utilities were at the scene Tuesday evening at the Hunters Road intersection with the entrance road to the Oakland Heights Mobile Home Park.
The crash occurred at 7:52 p.m., and Hunters Road remained closed late into the evening as police investigated the accident and a wrecker truck was called to right the car and tow it away, Hadam said.
Hadam said the car was traveling eastbound on Hunters Road, descending a steep hill at a curve when it struck the guide wire and flipped onto an area of soft ground just off the roadway.
A passenger in the car suffered serious injuries and was transported by American Ambulance to The William W. Backus Hospital, Hadam said. Names of the three occupants were not available Tuesday.
No utility wires were down as a result of the crash, and power remained on, but Hadam said NPU was called to check the wires and utility pole. A fire hydrant at the intersection also was struck and was out of service, Hadam said.
