UPDATED: Police identify motorcyclist seriously injured in Stonington crash

Stonington ― Police have identified the motorcyclist seriously injured in a crash on Lantern Hill Road Monday as 33-year-old Cory Tolbert of Long Pond Road in Ledyard.

He remains in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Tolbert was found at 4:50 p.m. on Monday in the area of Whitford Brook off Lantern Hill Road where a small bridge links the towns of Stonington and Ledyard.

Stonington Police Capt. Todd Olson said a caller from a nearby home had heard the accident and called police.

Tolbert was treated by emergency medical personnel at the scene and taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. He was stabilized and later flown to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he remained on Tuesday.

Olson said a regional accident reconstruction team responded to the scene of the accident and the road was closed for several hours during the investigation into the cause of the crash. No other vehicles were involved and the investigation is ongoing.
