Man shot outside Norwich convenience store

Norwich ― A man was shot and injured in a drive-by shooting early Tuesday morning outside a Norwich convenience store, police said.

At 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday, police said they received a call from Backus Hospital about a man admitted with a gunshot wound to the head. Police described the wound as non-life threatening.

An investigation determined the shooting had taken place at the Ravi Mart at 243 Central Ave. The victim was at the gas pumps when police said at least one occupant from an older model grey Jeep Cherokee fired numerous shots from the vehicle before speeding off. Police said footage from the incident was captured on a surveillance camera.

The man who was shot remains in the hospital in stable condition, according to police who said the incident appears to be a targeted attack and not a random incident.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Ken Wright at 860-886-5561, ext. 3159 or by email at kwright@cityofnorwich.org. The department’s anonymous tip line is 860-886-5561, ext. 4.
