Porch fire extinguished at multi-family home in Norwich
Norwich ― Firefighters quick extinguished a porch fire early Wednesday morning at a three-family home at 139 McKinley Ave.
The fire was first reported at 3:19 a.m. and firefighters arrived to find the front porch of the home engulfed in flames.
Norwich Fire Department Battalion Chief Marc Benjamin said firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading into the 2¹/₂ -story home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
No injuries were reported.
Those responding to the fire included multiple volunteer firefighters, part of the city’s automatic aid ordinance that brings out personnel from both paid and volunteer firefighters to all fires. Benjamin said operations ran smoothly.
The American Red Cross said it was assisting four adults from two families who were temporarily displaced by the fire.
