Woman charged in theft of $2K worth of wire from East Lyme hardware store

East Lyme ― Police arrested a Bozrah woman on Wednesday wanted in the theft of $2,000 worth of copper wire from a local hardware store.

Amanda J. Williams of 197 Gifford Lane, faces charges in connection with a Jan. 5 robbery from the True Value Home Center at 300 Flanders Road.

Police also said they have an arrest warrant for a second woman involved in the robbery. She remains at large.

During the alleged theft, police said a store employee confronted the two women in the parking lot and attempted to hold onto the getaway vehicle. Police said one of the women kicked the employee before speeding off. Police had posted photos of the two women on social media and shared the photos with other law enforcement. There was a large response from people identifying the women, particularly Williams, who has the number “92” tattooed on her throat area, police said.

East Lyme police, in a statement, said Williams and the other woman are suspects in a similar theft in a different town on the same day.

Williams was taken into custody by New London police after learning of the warrant for her arrest.

Williams is charged with fourth-degree larceny, third-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree robbery.
