Elderly man charged with voyeurism in East Lyme

East Lyme ― Police arrested a 75-year-old Newington man Friday on charges he took inappropriate photos of a 16-year-old staying with him at a cottage here.

James Koloski, 75, is charged with risk of injury to a minor, disorderly conduct and voyeurism with malice. He was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond and expected to be arraigned Friday in New London Superior Court.

Police said the voyeurism allegedly occurred in July at a rented cottage at Cozy Nest Cottages on River Road in East Lyme.

The victim in the case claims he awoke to find Koloski lifting his underpants up and hearing a click of a camera. When the victim looked up, police said he claimed he saw Koloski holding his phone towards his buttocks. Koloski, in an interview with police, said he did take photos of the victim but the victim was wearing underwear at the time. The victim also alleges that while wrestling with Koloski, Koloski was “pressing against him sexually.”

After being confronted with the allegations, police said Koloski wrote a letter threatening suicide, but was “waiting to find out what happens with the criminal investigation before he decides whether or not to kill himself.” He was sent for an emergency evaluation at that time, police said.

Newington police, during a search of Koloski’s home in September, found VHS tapes containing high school wrestling matches along with teen comedy shows such as “Saved by the Bell” and “Charles in Charge.” Police said one VHS contained a home video of a 14-year-old boy swimming.
