DEEP: Fuel spill cleaned up at Old Lyme gas station

Old Lyme ― About 20 to 30 gallons of diesel fuel spilled Thursday evening at an Old Lyme gas station when a tanker truck was refilling the gas station’s underground tank and it overfilled, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

DEEP personnel went to the scene of the 8 p.m. incident at the Citgo gas station at 281 Shore Road. The fuel stayed on paved surfaces and never reached soil, catch basins, or drains, said DEEP spokesperson Paul Copleman.

“It was contained and cleaned thanks to the local fire department and a responding clean-up contractor,” Copleman said.
