Fire destroys home in Old Lyme

Old Lyme ― A Sunday morning fire severely damaged a home at 6 Meeting House Lane.

The fire was reported at 4 a.m. and firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the roof, Old Lyme Fire Marshal David Roberge said.

The three people in the 3,800-square-foot-home were able to escape. No injuries were reported among the occupants or firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to be accidental and possibly related to fireplace in the home, Roberge said.

Old Lyme firefighters were joined firefighters from the Old Saybrook, Flanders, East Lyme, Lyme, Deep River, Essex, Westbrook and Clinton departments. Firefighters called on tankers and stretched hoses to pump water from a pond at the Old Lyme County Club to fight the fire.

Meetinghouse Lane is a dead end road off Johnny Cake HIll Road.
