    Mother, daughter hospitalized after being swept down section of river in Baltic

    Baltic ― A mother and daughter were hospitalized Tuesday after being rescued from a fast-moving section of the Shetucket River, fire officials said.

    Baltic Fire Engine Co. #1 Chief Bob Tardif said firefighters were dispatched at approximately 5:15 p.m. for a water rescue involving a 39-year-old woman and her 7-year-old daughter who were swept downstream near the Sprague-Norwich border by river currents.

    The unconscious pair were transported to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. There was no immediate information on their conditions from state police.
