Man involved in fatal Groton dirt bike crash recovering at hospital

Groton ― The condition of Scott Whipple, the 25-year-old Mashantucket man severely injured in a dirt bike crash that claimed the life of a 24-year-old Norwich woman last month, has improved.

Whipple’s condition was upgraded from critical to fair, a spokesman at Yale New Haven Hospital confirmed on Tuesday.

Police say Whipple was the driver of a dirt bike that ran a red light and crashed into a car turning into the Groton Shopping Center on Long Hill Road on Aug. 28. Whipple’s passenger, Tiara Wheeler, 24, of Norwich, died in the crash.

Groton Town police continue to investigate the crash.
