Norwich social services office closed Tuesday after threat

Norwich ― The Connecticut Department of Social Services office in Norwich was closed Monday afternoon and will be closed Tuesday after receiving a threat.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday, state troopers responded to the office for a report of a possible threat, according to a preliminary report by state police.

“We did receive a threat for the Norwich office,” Jalmar DeDios, director of communications for the Connecticut Department of Social Services, said Monday.

“Out of our protocol and an abundance of caution, we decided to close the branch today and tomorrow,” DeDios said.

DeDios said that in the meantime, other social services offices in the state are still open. People can access day-to-day applications online or by phone at 1(855) 626-6632.

State police said they are investigating the threat, but that there is no imminent danger to the public. DeDios could not say what the threat was until state police conclude their investigation.
