State Police report one traffic death, fewer DWIs over Thanksgiving weekend

State police said Monday that they responded to fewer accidents, issued fewer speeding violations and made fewer drunken driving arrests over the holiday weekend, than they did last Thanksgiving.

In addition, there was one fatality in which a New London school employee died in a one-car crash on Route 85 in Hebron.

The data was collected from midnight on Nov. 22 to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, state police said.

In that time period, state police officers responded to 5,812 calls for service, down from last year’s 6,569.

They issued 188 citations for speeding, down from last year’s 265.

They responded to 439 motor vehicle accidents, five less than last year, and made 30 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, 11 fewer than last year.
