Medical examiner: Man in Pawcatuck died of multiple gunshots

The man at the center of Thursday’s officer-involved shooting in Pawcatuck died of gunshot wounds to the torso and extremities, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed on Saturday.

Vaughn Malloy’s death was ruled a homicide, meaning his death was caused by another person. The medical examiner does not make rulings on whether a homicide is criminal.

The circumstances of Malloy’s death, along with the death of state police K-9 Broko, is part of an investigation by the Office of the Inspector General.

State police said the shooting occurred Thursday evening at a home on Mechanic Street while police were serving a felony arrest warrant. Court records show Malloy was ordered rearrested on May 10, 2022, after he failed to show up for pending misdemeanor cases in New London Superior Court.
