Truck carrying 20 tons of bananas rolls over on I-95 in Stonington

Stonington ― A tractor trailer carrying 40,000 pounds of bananas, or 20 tons of fruit, rolled over Tuesday on the exit 92 off-ramp of the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, police said.

State police from Troop E, who responded to the 6:49 a.m. crash, said the driver of the tractor trailer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

It did not appear any bananas were spilled onto the roadway. The state Department of Transportation reported that exit 92 was closed for hours and reopened around noon.
