Police: No criminal aspect to untimely death in East Lyme woods

East Lyme ― Local police said the discovery of a body Tuesday afternoon in the woods near Interstate 95 is being investigated as an untimely death with no criminal aspect.

The department in a news release said officers and members of the Flanders Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 4:38 p.m. after a report came in about the body. Responders found a dead man about one-tenth of a mile off southbound exit 71 on Four Mile River Road.

Chief Mike Finkelstein said the call came from someone walking a dog in the woods.

The department’s detective division is investigating, according to police. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

Local officers were assisted by law enforcement personnel from the Westbrook barracks of the Connecticut State Police, Old Lyme Police Department, Old Lyme Fire Department, and New London State’s Attorney’s Office.
