Two Ledyard women charged with animal cruelty

Ledyard ― Quiana Durham, 33, and Precious Michaud, 27, both of 27 Highland Drive, turned themselves in to Ledyard police at 10:05 a.m. May 1 and were each charged with five counts of cruelty to animals, a release said.

Police said a warrant for their arrest alleges that on the morning of April 6, Durham phoned Ledyard Animal Control Officers “demanding that they come and take possession of ‘abandoned animals.’”

When the officers arrived, they found five different kinds of animals in “extremely poor” physical condition. They were also in poor living conditions, police said.

All animals were seized by the Ledyard Animal Control Office, police said. Ledyard police could not be reached Sunday for comment.

They are next scheduled to appear in court on May 16.
