Groton — Police say a man was shot in the abdomen in the parking lot of the 99 Restaurant on Long Hill Road Sunday afternoon.

The shooting occurred at about 4:40 p.m. and the man was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to Groton Town Police Lt. John Varone.

Police are looking for one, or possibly two, suspects, Varone said. He added the shooting was not a random act. No description of the suspects was immediately available from police.

Police taped off the parking lot, placed evidence markers in the lot and interviewed witnesses. Police K9 teams also searched the area. The restaurant was temporarily closed.
