Man stabbed to death in New London found on second floor

New London — Even as city police were investigating a shooting death on Orchard Street Saturday afternoon, they reported a man was stabbed to death on Tilley Street Sunday night.

Neither victim has yet been identified. The latest death was reported at 39 Tilley St., and police Capt. Brian Wright said in a press release that emergency personnel responded to a call at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, finding a male victim lying on the steps of the second floor with a stab wound to his upper chest.

The man was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

New London police detectives have been assigned to the case, and the New London State's Attorney's office also responded to the scene.

Anyone with information about either of the weekend incidents were asked to contact the Detective Division at (860) 447-1481. People can also submit information to the police anonymously by texting "NLPDTip" and the information to Tip411 (847411).

In the shooting on Orchard Street, city police said Sunday they are looking to question Jamir Johnson, 18.

Police are still trying to confirm the identity of the man found shot dead in a basement apartment at 4 Orchard St. in the middle of the afternoon Saturday. The man's identity had yet to be officially confirmed using fingerprint records, Wright said in an email.

"(We) want to ensure the upmost diligence is exercised and proper notification is extended to (the) family," Wright wrote.

Police said they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head in a basement apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
