Officials investigate cause of small fire at Norwich Self Storage
Norwich — Inspectors are looking into who or what left paper smoldering inside a building at the Norwich Self Storage at South Golden Street on Thursday evening.
According to Battalion Chief Keith Wucik, firefighters responded to the 1 S. Golden St. complex just before 6 p.m. because a fire alarm had activated. On arrival, they smelled smoke and checked the building to locate its origin.
That’s when they found some papers smoldering next to a pile of trash, Wucik said. Firefighters used a water fire extinguisher on the papers and ventilated the building, which was not damaged.
Fire officials believe it’s possible some people had been inside the building shortly before the fire began, Wucik said, but the cause of the small blaze remains under investigation.
